Biophilic Lung

Biophilic Lung was developed as an urban housing project located in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn, NY. The structure itself filters air through a partnership with plants to create an organically purified indoor air condition. An integrated system of planted areas creates several micro-climates; through the process of photosynthesis, carbon dioxide and impurities are absorbed into the plants and converted to clean oxygen.

The building envelop benefits from a “double skin” design, creating a trombe wall effect which passively heats units in the winter and cools them in the summer. The design looks to provide urban access to busy students and professionals that often lack interaction with nature.
